A fifth album, Pinewood Smile, was released on 6 October 2017 and one year later on 15 June 2018 a live album, Live at Hammersmith, was also released. The Darkness were directed by manager Sue Whitehouse, who had managed them since Justin Hawkins' time as a creator of music jingles and their original band days as Empire The band already had music industry interest from their days as Empire through connections with Sue Whitehouse, who was based at Savage & Best in Camden

Addressing the forthcoming album and The Darkness’ undoubted relevance in 2017, Justin Hawkins asks, somewhat rhetorically of the world at large, Why should anybody care? Because if you don’t, we’re fucked!! . Returning to save our airwaves from mediocre, auto-tuned tweens and that awful, throbby EDM shite, the album Pinewood Smile finds The Darkness on electrifying form, delivering some of the most sharp-witted, infectious, humorous and downright brilliant songs of their career. Written in Putney, recorded in Cornwall and produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Muse), the compositions have all the crucial elements of classic Darkness fare, but with added layers for the ears to peel away a. ike a sonic onion but a lot tastier.

Only 11 left in stock (more on the way). On their 5th album, this British gift to over-the-top rock ‘n’ roll keeps the guitars sparkling with a blasting bombast of style. They are, in the best possible sense, an arena rock metal band caricature of themselves. Take a heavy dose of the sillier side of Queen mixed with Spinal Tap campiness; then dumb-down the sounds of AC/DC, The Sword, Thin Lizzy and Wolfmother-now you have the formula for Pinewood Smile. Is it high voltage? Check.

suck some air out of the room, making the whole thing feel a little stale, which is the last thing you want from a project that so fetishizes another era.

I am really disappointed of the vinyl-release. To be fair, the artwork looks great, there are well designed band photos, lyrics and credits. There is also a download-code for the album and all bonus tracks. Everything is fine so far, except the tracklist: Only nine songs with a total running time of 33 minutes. It would actually be kind of "okay" for me, if I wasn't be able comparing it to the CD-version which includes one more track, and to the deluxe version, which again includes four more songs, with an additional running time of approximately 20 minutes. So I feel a bit tricked.Bonus tracks for deluxe versions are always fine for me, as long as the standard version is really a "full length-album", how it is actually called. In my "unaware opinion", it should be possible without any problem to put at least one more song on each side of the vinyl, so the album would have got a total running time of approximately 40 minutes and I would be fine. This is really disappointing for me, since the songs on the album (and also the bonus tracks) are really good, a perfect mixture of all their previous albums. Rufus on drums and as additional songwriter is a true gain for the band. But I just don't get it, why they cut off so many songs from this vinyl version.

Side two clocks in just under 16 minutes. I don't get the rationale for omitting a 3-minute song???
