Janet Jackson's sold-out Rhythm Nation tour kicked off in Miami on March 1 and continues this summer in 20,000-seat indoor arenas like the Forum in Los Angeles, Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, . and the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Her first-ever solo tour may be prototypical of the '90s. An elaborately choreographed spectacle with 17 dancers, musicians, and backup singers, it aims to re-create the visual intensity of the videos from her two multiplatinum albums, 1986's Control and the current Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814. Entertainment Weekly 06-01-1990.
Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation (a title that puts ego before social conscience) begins with the distant sound of a tolling bell - a muffled memory of a dream deferred, perhaps (let freedom ring), or the still-faint promise of better things to come (ringing in the new). The bell is a warning - the album sounds a series of alarms and calls for action - and apparently a signal that school is in session, because when Jackson speaks, she’s reciting a Pledge : We are a nation with no geographic boundaries, bound together through our beliefs. We are like-minded individuals, sharing a common vision,.

Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 (commonly referred to as Rhythm Nation) is the fourth studio album by American singer Janet Jackson, released on September 19, 1989, by A&M Records. Although label executives wanted material similar to her previous album, Control (1986), Jackson insisted on creating a concept album addressing social issues.
Rhythm Nation 1814 produced a record-setting seven top five hit singles on the Billboard Hot 100. With lead single "Miss You Much", along with "Escapade", "Black Cat" and the album's final single "Love Will Never Do (Without You)", it also yielded four number one hits. purchasing their first Janet Jackson release, Rhythm Nation would be an even wiser investment than Control-and that's saying a lo.
Jackson’s self-titled 1982 album for A&M had only reached No. 63 on the Billboard 200, but that suddenly seemed impressive when the follow-up, Dream Street, was derailed at No. 147 in 1984. But then came the dramatic career makeover and the pairing with Minneapolis studio maestros Jam & Lewis that completely turned Jackson’s fortunes around. The accolades rained down on Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814, which went on to be placed at No. 275 in Rolling Stone’s 2003 list of the 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. Jackson’s career would yield three more No. 1 albums in a row in the 1990s, for an artist who ruled her own rhythm nation and returned in 2015 with her first release in seven years, Unbreakable. The title rang true, as the album took her back to the top of both the US pop and R&B charts. Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 can be bought here.
