Symphony N. 17 "Tragic" (1816). 1. Adagio Molto - Allegro Vivace. Composed By – Franz Schubert. Conductor – Frans Brüggen. Orchestra – Orchestra Of The 18th Century.

Schubert: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 4. 1997. Symphony No. 1 in D major, D. 82. Frans Brüggen, Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century. 4 in C minor ("Tragic"), D. 417. 5. Adagio molto, Allegro vivace.

Franz Schubert completed seven symphonies; nonetheless, one of his incomplete symphonies, the Unfinished Symphony is among his most popular works. By 1818, Schubert had completed 6 symphonies: D 2B, Symphony in D major (1811?, fragment of the first movement is extant). D 82, Symphony No. 1 in D major (1813). D 125, Symphony No. 2 in B-flat major (1814–1815). D 200, Symphony No. 3 in D major (1815). D 417, Symphony No. 4 in C minor, Tragic (1816).

Exclusively for Prime members. Sample this album Artist - Artist (Sample). The three discs in the set include not only the four symphonies but the Haydn Variations, the Alto Rhapsody (with Christa Ludwig), and the Academic and Tragic Overtures. Klemperer's way with the First Symphony is as granitelike as always, yet the music flows almost unconsciously from his direction. The famous march tune in the Finale is, of course, as prominent as ever and crowns the work for the heroic tones that precede it; but even the prior three movements show the power and conviction of both Brahms and Klemperer.

but while this set of all eight symphonies - Schubert never did more than sketch a seventh - with Frans Brüggen conducting the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century may not match the greatest recordings of the greatest works, it often comes very, very close. Symphony N. 17 - "Tragic": 4. Allegro 09. in B-Flat, . 25: 1. Largo - Allegro vivace 10.

Frans Brüggen's cycle of Franz Schubert's symphonies recorded in Utrecht in the early to mid-1990's has always been highly rated and its new issue in a bargain basement, space-saving box set is true cause for rejoicing. Matching any conductor's speeds and infecting these lovely works with an infectious and spirited vitality was Brüggen's mission and I can only state that he succeeds to the letter in some wonderfully atmospheric recordings
