Texas must have been aware of this, since they switched labels in America, releasing White on Blonde's sequel The Hush near-simultaneously in the . a sure sign that they were aiming for the big time. As it turns out, they pulled off a minor coup with The Hush - they build on the strengths of White on Blonde, creating a sophisticated, sexy pop album that manages to balance commercial and creative concerns, with seemingly very little effort. It won't please longtime fans, who might be pining for a return to the rock of their early records, but the album's lush.

Scotland's Texas (they have nothing to do with the Lone Star State) go for the . Attributing the Motown sound as a major influence, Texas's sound is heavily influenced by contemporary American R&B. Now, when we think of Motown, the word soul is immediately evoked, but Texas's sound is about as far away from true soul as Dallas is from the band's hometown of Glasgow.

England's Texas sculpts studio-perfect summer radio pop. Carbonated drumbeats provide a smooth, soft, cocoa-buttery surface like a well tanned midriff. It spreads out between a tight cotton tee and a pair of skin-squeezing jeans with the top few buttons haphazardly loose, allowing singer/pin-up Sharleen Spiteri's voice to dance across it like the brushing of delicately painted fingernails around the navel and upper pubis. A deep, discotheque bassline fills the sound nicely like two handfuls of pillowy, grade-A breast inflating the top of a red tanktop.

The discography of Scottish pop rock band Texas contains nine studio albums, one live album, three compilation albums and 38 singles. Their most successful single to date is "Say What You Want" (1997), which peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart. Texas made their performing debut in March 1988 at Scotland's University of Dundee. They took their name from the 1984 Wim Wenders movie Paris, Texas
