Kemal Gekić (born on February 16, 1962, in Split, Croatia, then Yugoslavia) is a Croatian-born American concert pianist and Full Professor of Piano Performance at Florida International University in Miami, Florida, USA. Gekic is a citizen of the United States, Serbia and Croatia. Kemal Gekić was born in Split, Croatia, to a Croatian mother (a descendant of the old notable family Buj from Split) and a Croatian father (of a Croatian-Bosnian descent).

About the Artist: Kemal Gekić Flamboyant, daring, provocative, exciting, seductive and sensitive are some of the words used to describe one of today's most formidable pianists, Kemal Gekic, whose playing has been acclaimed worldwide by public and critics alike. Born in Split, Croatia in 1962, Gekić amazed his family by accurately picking out melodies at the piano at age one and a half. The young prodigy received all his early musical training from his aunt, Lorenza Batturina. In 1978 he entered the class pf Prof. Jokuthon Mihailovich (a graduate of Moscow Conservatory) at the Art Academy.

Here mercurial Gekic is at his best, displaying unprecedented range of colors, breathtaking virtuosity, passionate lyricism and inspired fantasy,as well as the electrifying, white-hot atmosphere of a live performance. A must for pianists, piano buffs and all music lovers. - Joe Roschko, Music Live, July 24,2004.

Kemal Gekic playing Chopin's op. 25/12 etude from a 2002 recital in Japan. The most beautiful interpretation of this piece, in my opinion. Kemal Gekic playing Chopin's op.
