Kadhja Bonet (sounds like) Kad-ya was born in 1784 in the backseat of a sea-foam green space pinto. After spending an extraordinarily long time in her mothers plasma, she discovered the joys and gratifications of making noise with her hands and face while traveling at maximum velocity through intergalactic jungle quadrants
Album · 2016 · 8 Songs. Though she has recently collaborated with Anderson. Paak and Mayer Hawthorne, Kadhja Bonet’s exquisite, nearly classical voice recalls Sarah Vaughan more than anyone on the current pop scene. Honeycomb sounds like a classically trained singer flowing over an Al Green track, while Fairweather Friend and the beautifully cooing folk ballad Nobody Other shows her articulating each and every note even when she’s delivering in a whisper. The Visitor Kadhja Bonet.

An almost thunderous intro excepted, each song on The Visitor unfurls in deliberate fashion with each note played like a caress. They're lullabies when played at a low volume.
A warm and charming debut EP that carries a heavenly quality to its sound. Kadhja Bonet comes out of nowhere with one of the most beautiful compilation of debut material this year, maybe proving that the enigmatic information of her bio on bandcamp isn't entirely made up, maybe proving spiritual jazz still lives, decades later, in a different form and aesthetic. The results of this precise blend of gentle vocals with cozy, minimalistic instrumentation are a treat for the years, in a time where.
However, it was not an easy listen, most of the songs are the same tempo and have the same vibe so it can be difficult to listen to the entire album in one go. Hearts of heart, I was hoping that instead of a Jazz drum, at least one of the song would go into a big hip-hop electronic drum kit and go up in dynamic but it never happened. I was slightly disappointed with the production throughout the album as song after song, it sounded more and more dated and did not do justice to Bonet’s overtly contemporary voice
