Octet to Orpheus: The Ne. .has been added to your Cart. Of all the major composers of the 20th century, none was more warmly embraced by the world of Rock music than Stravinsky. Along with Edgard Varese, he was the principal influence on the compositions of Frank Zappa, while numerous avant-garde and Progressive Rock bands - among them Yes, who would take the stage to the accompaniment of the Firebird - proclaimed him their guiding light.

Octet to Orpheus: The Neo-Classical Stravinsky.

The Octet for wind instruments is a chamber-music composition by Igor Stravinsky, completed in 1923. Stravinsky’s Octet is scored for an unusual combination of woodwind and brass instruments: flute, clarinet in B♭ and A, two bassoons, trumpet in C, trumpet in A, tenor trombone, and bass trombone.

Tracklist: 01. Tango, for chamber orchestra. Suite No. 1, for chamber orchestra 02. No. 1, Andante 03. 2, Napolitana 04. 3, Espanola 05.

Octet to Orpheus the Neo Classical St - Igor Stravinsky Compact Disc Free Shippi. Orpheus' eponymous album is filled with rather good but derivative neo/symphonic prog with hard rock touches, in general very similar to work of much more popular band from Japan - Novela. Nothing spectacular, but if you've already collected all records of Novela, Gerard, Vienna and alike, you should also check Orpheus 'cos you will find "more of the same".

Neo-Classicism comes in many varieties, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra explored several in its concert. The Bach obviously stood outside the program’s Neo-Classical theme, but it put Bach’s accents in listeners’ ears as a way of setting up the premiere of Peter Maxwell Davies’s Sea Orpheus. Part of the orchestra’s New Brandenburg Project, in which composers were asked to write companion pieces for Bach’s six Brandenburg Concertos, Sea Orpheus revisits the Brandenburg Concerto No. 5, with its solo flute, violin and keyboard lines. Other influences include a Gregorian chant, Tantum Ergo Sacramentum, which is the work’s principal theme, and a poem, Sea Orpheus, by George Mackay Brown.

Stravinsky's neo-Classical works in part reacted against what the composer perceived as ultra-romantic excesses in the music of German symphonic composers. However, these works must also be seen as a rejection of Stravinsky's own earlier stylistic thinking. The Octet was the first masterpiece in the composer's new style.
