As befits a group bearing his name, the Pavel Haas Quartet performs Haas' single-movement String Quartet No. 1 from 1920 and three-movement String Quartet No. 3 from 1938 with uncompromising dedication. Together, violinists Veronika Jaruskova and Marie Fuxova, violist Pavel Nikl, and cellist Peter Jarusek form a strong-willed and exciting ensemble. Their focused intonation, forceful tempos, and tight tempos are impressive, and their fervent interpretations of Haas' music are revelatory. For decades after the composer's 1944 death in Auschwitz, the vast majority of his music was. 1 after Tolstoy´s Kreutzer Sonata - Leoš Janáček, 4:190:30. 4. 1 after Tolstoy´s Kreutzer Sonata - Leoš Janáček, 5:410:30. 5. 3 - Pavel Haas, 13:480:30. 15: I. Pavel Haas composed his second string quartet, Op. 7, titled "From the Monkey Mountains" (Czech: "Z opičích hor"), in 1925, three years after he finished his composition studies in Leoš Janáček´s masterclass. The work was premièred in Brno on 16 March 1926, by the Moravian Quartet.

Release group information. Artist: Leoš Janáček, Pavel Haas; Pavel Haas Quartet.

Haas: String Quartets Nos 1 & 3; Janáček: String Quartet No 1; Pavel Haas Quartet. Pavel Haas died in Auschwitz in 1944, after being incarcerated in the Terezin concentration camp for three years. He was 45, and before the second world war, he had established himself as the most distinctive of the generation of Czech composers who had studied with Janáček. The young Prague-based quartet who have taken Haas's name have already recorded his Second Quartet for Supraphon, coupling it with Janáček's Second, and this disc completes their survey of both composers.
