Premiers Symptômes (English: First Symptoms) is the debut EP by French electronic music duo Air. It consists of early singles released between 1995 and 1997. Les professionnels" was later used for the basis of Air's 1998 single "All I Need". Les professionnels" – 4:32 ("The Professionals"). J'ai dormi sous l'eau" – 5:42 ("I Slept Under Water"). Le soleil est près de moi" – 4:52 ("The Sun Is Close to Me").

Hard To Find Air Album Compilation of the first 3 air releases. Air's European-label five-song EP, Premiers Symptomes, may have been a collection of early singles, but when it first came out in 1997 it felt all of a piece. Deploying an array of vintage mid-century instruments (Fender Rhodes, Minimoog, Clavinet), as well as a tuba, Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunckel created a cloistered, lulling sound world that was entirely their own (although, think The Percy Faith Orchestra Covers Brian Eno's Music for Airports and you get the basic idea). It's not that newcomers "Californie" and "Brakes On" are unworthy, just that their overt funk shatters the tranquil atmosphere this French duo so painstakingly establish elsewhere.

With the French band Air, the collectors may just be right for once. Premiers Symptomes, a five-track EP boosted up to seven tracks for its eventual American issue on Astralwerks, features some of the most gorgeous moments in the duo's discography - no small task considering the gems included on their full-length debut, 1998's Moon Safari. Almost completely instrumental (except for the surprisingly smooth robot croon on "Le Soleil est Pres de Moi"), Premiers Symptomes offers a half-dozen tracks of beautiful, deliciously downtempo synth-pop

Hy music friends, I got a special question according to this Air Compilation from 1997 "Premiers Symptomes". I have the feeling that this vinyl is really heavy. I thought maybe a 180g vinyl or 140g, 150g to 180g. Anyway I haven't found anything in research. The first 180g from that compilation is from 2016 I guess. But I mean the ORIGINAL 1997 vinyl.. If any body can help me out with an answer would be great. Thanks!
156 grams is mine. Its the first pressing. The original
Thanks. It felt pretty heavy like the 180g albums. The 1997 "Premiers Symptomes" first press is a real fat one. And also the "Casanova" 12" (first pressig) is also a heavy disc. Strange that nobody recognised it.. Even here on discogs stands often nothing from albums that are 100% 180 gram. Difficult to weight that thing...Who makes the discogs infos? I really like it but sometimes is something missing.. Peace man..
I don't have a scale, but I'd say 140-150. I hope this helps.
Beware, there may be a run of flawed pressings. In the horns, clav and some of the keyboard hits there is audible distortion. This can be easily heard on A2 and A3. Also on the opening note of B1. Maybe that's why I got this disc on sale?
sunrise bird
This vinyl is so much more thick than all these Air latest releases. I bet it's about 200g and not 180g.
It is interesting case with the name of the first track of this release: here it is named 'Modular Mix' - while on this release https://www.discogs.com/AIR-Modulor-Mix/master/58532 - it is called 'Modulor Mix'.Which version is correct? Of course the 'Modulor Mix' - because on the aforementioned release there is Le Corbusier's Modulor figure on the cover. So why do Air changed the title?
what a journey.. This EP is magic for our ears...
Track A1: is entitled "Modular Mix", not that shown above.
You could've corrected it yourself? but i've put it right now
The reissue sounds amazing. Has the insert with the slotted front cover like the original release. I personally like only having the original 5 songs on it, the last two on the releases were a bit too upbeat and didn't quite jive with the rest of the EP.
This was reissued after its initial issues on vinyl with the added bonus tracks why are they absent here it sound great but its not complete the brakes on mix is fantastic and should've been on this release.
This is one of the best-sounding albums in my collection. Brilliant job on the vinyl mastering.

Does the reissue have the cut out cover?
did you ever find out. was wondering the same thing.
It does, yes, with a sleeve insert that fills out the colors inside.
My copy of this with this catalogue number has 2 bonus tracks - is that a different issue?
Same with mine. Additional tracks are "Californie" and "Brakes on".My CD just has catalogue # 8472452 SOURCE. CD was made in Australia, (P) 1999This release listing matched the CD track content accurately:http://www.discogs.com/AIR-Pocket-Symphony/release/922528Regards
Personally I rate this as their best work to date. This particular collection of tracks is a lot more "cool" and less "kitsch" than any other Air release. Dare I say it might have something to do with Dunckel having less of an influence on Air's output at the time these were recorded. He is not even credited for the first two tracks, essentially making them Godin solo works. Despite having been released separately previously, the first five tracks which made up the original Premiers Symptômes are quite cohesive and form an impressive little body of music. The last two seem a bit tacked on at times, as they are a lot more upbeat, but are far from being subpar. Having never owned the five track original these last two tracks are an equally essential part of this release to me. I would only recommend this specific Limited Edition release to collectors and almost regret getting it over the standard edition. The quality of the video is bad enough to make it nearly unwatchable and the cardboard sleeve, while nifty, damages easily. The tracks are excellent, probably among the best music I know and love, and I'd recommend them to anyone. This Limited Edition has no substantial extras to offer over the regular release though.
After it looked like techno was well burning out by 1997 and Drum-n-Bass had already once lifted me out of the funk surrounding "techno (or 'rave') music", this little anomale came along and breathed some fresh air into my discriminating brain when techno needed something fresh. This release is really smooth and very very VERY musical. Not repetitive at all, these are "songs" in every sense of the word. Years earlier techno music was arranged neatly into "songs" that simply used electronics to the hilt with sequencers doing the work of the keyboard player doing fifteen overdubs to arrive at virtually the same conclusion. That's right, with this release techno kind of came full swing to my ears. Once again I was hearing music of the electronic persuasion that wasn't boring me to death with ultra-minimalism! Actual "music" that used the elements of music and did it with an astounding human touch, too! Unfortunately in the last five years I really haven't been swept off my feet quite to that degree. The closest thing to the level of this music was a few Ninja Tune releases, but there's not been enough of them! This release really does reach those upper echelons of the electronic music world. Get it! Best Song is Casanova 70!
As good as Moon Safari was, this EP stands head and shoulders above it. Beautiful and haunting, it showcases the pure potential that Air has yet to live up to. "Modular Mix" and "Le Soleil Est Pres De Moi" are two particularly excellent examples.
Simple fellow
Althouth it was re-released after Moon Safari, and included 2 additional tracks, this is a prior release for the frenchsters Air. After you hear it, you cannot argue that Moon Safari, is inevitably the best follow-up this mini-album could have. Actually you can see that All I Need was indeed based on one of the songs on this mini-album. Surely one of the finest moments, France could provide in a decade where electronic music turned out to be an all impressive field. Be sure to keep one of these into your record collection.
