Supersilent is a Norwegian ational music group formed at Nattjazz in Bergen in 1997 when the trio Veslefrekk was asked to play with Deathprod. The meeting of experimental jazz groups with Helge Sten's rumbling drones and noise was so successful that the quartet Supersilent appeared. That same year, their triple debut album 1-3 was released as the first release on the record label Rune Grammofon.

When Supersilent first appear at the start of this film, it looks like they're walking onto an average stage at the front of any theater. 7 captures a single, complete concert from August 2004, and finds more structure than their previous concert album, 5. Each piece runs from 10 minutes to half an hour, and the band usually starts with one member playing alone, before the rest of the group joins or withdraws from the improvisation until it builds to torrents of beats and rhythms like carpet tacks. thrown into a windstorm.

On 4, the group incorporated the influence of fellow Rune Grammofon labelmate Arne Nordheim, an electro-acoustic composer whose dark-tinged experiments are a studio controlled kin to Supersilent. The uncreatively named 5 was compiled from over 30 hours of live recordings at live performances in Oslo, London, and Bologna in 2001.

Arve Henriksen – vocals, trumpet, percussion.

Supersilent is a Norwegian improvisational avant-garde, electroacoustic group from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1997 and signed on Rune Grammofon. The band reportedly never rehearse together or communicate about their music outside of live sets and studio sessions. Supersilent was formed when the free jazz trio Veslefrekk (Arve Henriksen on trumpet, keyboardist Ståle Storløkken, and Jarle Vespestad on drums) played a concert with producer, live electronics artist and self-described "audio virus" Helge Sten (.

The album's highlight resides in ".," a long improvisation with many twists, turns, and shifts in dynamics and moods. 4 shows Supersilent exploring an unheard-of fusion of free styles, sculpting their own niche. 1 . Unusually, the album comes in the form of a DVD documenting a two-hour performance in Oslo in August 2004. Clearly, on the evidence of this disc, Supersilent rose to the challenge magnificently, creating an utterly compelling performance that has cemented their position as one of the foremost practitioners of improvised soundscapes anywhere in the world.
