Then consider En Vogue: four Oakland, California women - Dawn Robinson. Maxine Jones, Terry Ellis and Cindy Herron - who combined sex appeal, girl power (they predated Spice Girls), major vocal cords and not one scandal. Released on March 24, 1992, Funky Divas was a dream scenario: a sophomore album that utterly eclipsed their debut, 1990’s Born To Sing. Produced by Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy, Divas’ thirteen tracks spanned everything from Beatles-inspired pop (literally, a cover of Yesterday ) to rock ( Free Your Mind ) to light rap ( It Ain’t Over Till the Fat Lady Sings ).

Funky Divas is the second studio album by American recording group En Vogue, released by Atlantic Records division EastWest on March 24, 1992 in the United States. Conceived after the success of their Grammy Award–nominated debut album Born to Sing (1990), En Vogue reteamed with their founders Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy to work on the entire album.

With injections of ’60s girl-group panache and trippy funk, En Vogue’s second album recalibrated R&B, creating a fresh template for the genre in the ’90s. From the jazzy, doo-wop-style refrain of My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It) to the classic-rock swagger of Free Your Mind, the wide-ranging sounds and hippie-ish vibes of Funky Divas have a loose-limbed openness that transcends the boudoir jams of the era’s contemporary soul scene. Funky Divas En Vogue.

Like the Supremes, En Vogue were the perfect mixture of fabrication and fabulousness.

En Vogue's second album, Funky Divas, was released in the spring of 1992. The album debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Billboard R&B and ultimately doubled the take of its predecessor, going multi-platinum. The album's first two singles: "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" and "Giving Him Something He Can Feel" both went top 10, and peaked at No. 1 on the R&B charts. 31] the quartet talked about being united on a permanent basis. In August, after performing during selected spot dates, the original members announced their reformation for their 20th Anniversary World Tour which coincided with the release of their debut album Born to Sing (1990) and led them to tour North America, Europa and Japan. In 2009, En Vogue along with.
