I've Gotta Be Me" is a popular song that appeared in the Broadway musical Golden Rainbow, which starred Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé. The musical opened in New York City at the Shubert Theatre on February 4, 1968, and closed just under a year later, on January 11, 1969. The music and lyrics for the musical were composed and written by Walter Marks in 1967; the production featured a book by Ernest Kinoy.

I've Gotta Be Me. Golden Rainbow - Original Broadway Cast. I've Gotta Be Me by Victor Wood (1973). Zpíval Jsem Rád by Karel Gott (1969).

Steven "Steve" Lawrence (born July 8, 1935) is an American singer and actor, best known as a member of a duo with his wife Eydie Gormé, billed as "Steve and Eydie  .

This version of "I've Gotta Be Me" from the Broadway musical "Golden Rainbow" is a different one from that which was recorded for the original cast album. Steve Lawrence released it as the first single issued on the then new Calendar label (the cast album was also issued on Calendar). The 1968 musical starred Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, and was re-working of the Frank Sinatra 1959 comedy, "A Hole In The Head". Steve and Eydie kept audiences happy at the Schubert Theatre for many many months with their singing, comedy and dancing.

Lyrics for I Gotta Be Me by Steve Lawrence. Whether I'm right, whether I'm wrong Whether I find a place in this world or never belong. settle for less As long as there's half a chance that I can have it all I'll go it alone, that's how it must be I can't be right for somebody else if I'm not right for me I've gotta be me, I've gotta be me Daring to try to do it or die, I've. gotta be me I can't be right for somebody else if I'm not right for me I've gotta be me, I've gotta be me Daring to try to do it or die, I've gotta be me. Report a problem. Writer(s): Walter Marks.

The Walt Marks-penned number was originally written for the Broadway production of Golden Rainbow, a vehicle for the husband-and-wife team of Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme. However, it is Davis' emotive reading and practically biographical sentiment that makes the cut unquestionably his own. The LP also features "If My Friends Could See Me Now," "I'm a Brass Band," and "My Personal Property" - all from Sweet Charity.
