Shop Vinyl and CDs and complete your collection. The two West Coast East Side Revue albums on Rampart issued in the 60s appear to be the gold standard, but are priced accordingly. This is a pretty comprehensive set and much more affordable. Be aware that some tracks are mastered from slightly noisy vinyl sources. Think of this as a lovingly made mix tape. By 1966, the British Invasion had certainly begun to branch out from Merseybeat and British blues, encompassing psychedelia, sophisticated pop, folk-rock, music hall, R&B and hard rock. There are a couple of holdovers from 1965 on British Invasion: History of British Rock, Vol. 4, such as Gerry & the Pacemakers' "Ferry Cross the Mersey," but by and large the disc finds the British Invasion branching out as the second wave begins and the first wave finds new styles
The Archives Vol. 1 1963–1972 is a box set by Canadian musician Neil Young, released on June 2, 2009 and designed by Gary Burden. This is the first of several projected releases in the Neil Young Archives series, which will eventually chronicle the artist's entire career
The AAD sound reproduction is generally good to excellent and the notes include several small b&w pictures of some of the artists. Volume One covers 20 songs from 1964 and 1965. In volume one you get Kinks, Zombies, Yardbirds, etc. but when is the last time you heard "I'm telling you now" by Freddie & the Dreamers? or "Don't let the sun catch you crying" by Gerry & the Pacemakers? Highly Recommended. I have the entire History of British Rock series on cassette tape, unfortunately. If only Rhino would get with it and re-release this very important series. Every song's a gem, whether a one hit wonder or one of several hits by a well known singer or band.
