Louis Armstrong (1901–1971), nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, was an American trumpeter, composer, singer and occasional actor who was one of the most influential figures in jazz and in all of American popular music. His career spanned five decades, from the 1920s to the 1960s, and different eras in jazz.
The album also brings a ‘60s sensibility to more modern songs like Duran Duran’s Rio, George Michael’s Faith, Bad Things (the True Blood theme song) by Jace Everett, and even a Bacharach-inspired reimagining of the 1990 ballad More than Words by Extreme. The Swing Set with Alex Cook is the inspiration of actor and singer Alex Zavistovich, a r-turned-musician who has entertained and performed in films, TV and onstage.
Sir Neville Marriner. Hailed as an astonishing talent, with exquisite technique, Nigel Armstrong was born in Sonoma, California where he began playing the violin at the age of five. Nigel made his orchestra debut in 2002 as a soloist with the Baroque Sinfonia and has since performed concertos with the symphony orchestras in Dusseldorf, Oslo, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Buenos Aires among others. Though classical music is Mr. Armstrong's passion he also enjoys exploring different traditions of musical expression such as jazz, fiddle and tango. We made this album in two concert halls with great acoustics. For the Bach and Bartok sonatas in The Brain and Creativity Institute’s brand new Cammilleri Hall at USC, we used one AKG C24 microphone generously provided by Jon Fisher from Gearworks Pro Audio.
