Lee Andrews and Roy Calhoun went to work at Gotham Record Distributors, hoping to also scored a chance to audition for owner Ivan Ballens Gotham record label. When the group learned that their contract with Williams wasnt valid because they were all minors when they signed it, they reportedly asked Ballen to audition them. However, Ballens main interest was gospel music and he kept putting the teens off until the very end of 1955 when he finally relented and gave them a listen. Liking what he heard, he signed Lee Andrews and the Hearts to Gotham on January 3, 1956
