Mylène Farmer is a Canadian-born French pop superstar who rose to fame in the 1980s and topped the charts time and time again for decades thereafter. Known for giving precious few interviews, she is a deeply mysterious figure with a cult following of fans around the world. A strongly visual artist, Farmer has made videos and live performances an integral part of her musical statement and its inclination toward taboo subject matters such as sex and death. Born Mylène Jeanne Gautier on September 12, 1961 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, she moved to France at age eight and attended the Parisian drama school Cours Florent as a teenager. While studying to become an actress, she adopted the name Mylène Farmer in tribute to Frances Farmer, an iconic Hollywood actress from the 1930s.

En concert is the first live album by Mylène Farmer, released on 4 December 1989 and contains a cover, "Je voudrais tant que tu comprennes", originally sung by Marie Laforêt. For example, The Mag stated that this album is "a beautiful technical and musical performance". TV Hebdo considered that this album is "loan of emotion". La Voix du Nord qualified it as "real present", containing "the most successful songs" of Farmer, with a "very class presentation" and a booklet of photos. As for France Soir, it said that it is.

After very busy years from 1986 to 1992, Mylène Farmer avoided over exposure by taking a three years break. Her comeback with Anamorphosée in late October 1995 was once again big news. Coming from back-to-back million selling albums, the bar of expectations was raised very high. What wasn’t a travesty was the incredible ability of Mylène Farmer to drop cult hits. While the album was freefalling, down to after a mere three weeks inside the top tier, second single L’Instant X quickly rescued it. More than a small support, it increased the album position from to If you wonder who blocked her again four months after its debut, well, that was again Celine Dion with her D’Eux record. Album down to a few weeks later, new single – California -, new Top 10 hit – -, new climb of the album – up to The script was getting reproduced again and again.

Mylene Farmer went back to California with Laurent Boutonnat to produce her fifth album with which she made many surprises to her fans. A new Mylene Farmer returned, more colourful than ever, in a video clip produced by Ching Siu Tung for the song Ame-stram-gram. A new scandal is made when she released her video clip for the song Je te rends ton amour ( I give your love back).
