UFO 1 (1971) by UFO. Labels: Rare Earth. Genres: Hard Rock Members: Phil Mogg, Mick Bolton, Pete Way, Andy Parker.

Recorded on a shoestring budget, UFO has several challenging sonic moments. The uneven mixes and amateur performances that some listeners might find quaint or innocent could be distracting to others. In their pre-Michael Schenker days, the British band made a much more experimental noise that reflected psychedelic as well as R&B influences pitched with a dark resonance.

Whatever nonsense you may read here, the white label front laminated pressing is the FIRST pressing. The orange/red label is a later 2nd press from around 1972. A check through any picture discography will show red/orange labels only started being used by Beacon in 1972. It has also been confirmed by a friend of mine who bought this when it came out, and is accepted by pretty much everyone except mcprog11 - check popsike.
Akinozuru
this is a really nice japanese replica blu spec cd of the first ufo lp from 1970, the replication of the sleeve is perfect however the obi strip does not replicate the original lp obi strip, the disc sounds great and comes with a lyric inner sheet.......................
TheSuspect
i found this one in my collection recently, i forgot i had this rare earth pressing as i have the original uk& japan pressings of this lp, this us press was printed in small quantity and is pretty rare and hard to find in nm condition almost 50 years on, the sleeve has that typical late 60s/early 70s thick us cardboard to it, really nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ueledavi
this copy i have had for about 30 years complete w/ obi and on red vinyl, this is certainly the best of the two mick bolton bluesy spacey ufo records from 1970 & 71..................
Asher
My copy doesn't have the "stereo" stickers show in the pictures. In those areas it says "DJ copy, not for sale". Maybe those stickers were added later so it could be sold? Anyone know???

The first and second album first issued on a red label. This is the original. And only two years later, these albums are released on a white label. Therefore, the red label is much, much rarer.Of course the sound of red and white label differ significantly. Unfortunately red labels with the marriage of printing. But the red label sounds much more realistic. Because it is the original. In the white labels this marriage fixed, as usual. But the magic of the sound disappeared. The closest sounding like the red label is… German Decca Royal Sound. Because it is original too. But, not only white Beacon with the artificial sound.
Zorve
The first printing was on white Beacon label. Second printing on red label.
Damdyagab
Wrong. Please don't post rubbish like this up as fact. Orange label pressings are early repressings and came out in 1972, and we know this for a fact for the reasons I have given in the separate comment above. Your comments on the 'sound' are also laughable and a fantasy and based on pure ignorance.
RUL
Is the Beacon version the one with distorted bass guitar?
Mikale
this review is for the original uk 1970 pressing of UFO 1 wich was released on beacon records in 1970 in the uk, this is the original pressing, it has a laminated front sleeve and a none laminated back sleeve, the record is rather thick as this was released by mid 1970 some 45 + years ago, this is a beautiful lp if you can find one in decent condition..... cat # on first printing BEAS 12 and its on the white beacon label, if its on the red label that is the second printing from 1972 before beacon records went under
Quellik
no way mcprog ..... Saxonman1 is right. I will prove you why. the 1st press of UFO debut UK album has the labels white "beacon" is fine. the 2cnd press has red labels .................. the covers of the 1st and 2nd edition are different in TWO POINTS ... 1st is laminated only the front cover (2cnd issue with red labels has the pasltificado in the front and back cover) .... and the final proof is that both backs covers photos are different (!) and the photo of the back cover of the 2cnd edition with red labels have the image that comes out in the album UFO II (released 1 year before the 2cnd issue of the debut with red labels) so ...... the UFO (UK-1970) with label is the real deal. greetings from Callao-Peru.
Dyni
Sorry, but you are deeply mistaken. The red label was issued earlier. It is 100%. Don't doubt it. This applies to the 1st and 2nd album. Therefore, the red label is much, much rarer.
Kigabar
this was a nice japan replica lp style cd release 10 years ago on the airmail label in japan, the disc sounds fantastic but it would have been a bit nicer if they had done the original japan obi strip replication on all 3 of these as well, still great for very early ufo collectors
TheFresh
Terrible ! Amazing sound ;)
Lanin
this is the first beautiful japan pressing of this lp from 1970 on stateside records, ufo had a huge hit off this record in 1970 in japan with the eddie cochran cover c,mon everybody, this was pressed on thick red vinyl and comes with an insert with lyrics in both english and japanese and has a beautiful silver obi strip....
riki
this is a rare unique 1970 us pressing of this 1970 classic on the long long gone rare earth label, i think this label was only around for a few years from 1968 to 1971 i was told but have no proof, anyway this is for sure a one time printing and this lp wich is a bit scarce is already 45 years old, same sleeve as the european, uk and japanese versions that where released the same year.....
Kifer
Is this vinyl mastered "super-hot"? My copy has the bass guitar so loud, it "fuzzes"!! The mix itself is clear, not muffled or blurred up, its just the bass notes, not drum(s). It sounds very "live" compared to my cd. It was very enjoyable to hear (have not played it for 20+ years). It could be the Canadian version. Any comments from anyone with knowledge, please post here or to the appropriate version. {It is a Beacon vinyl, I found out.}
Xtani
This version is compressed! The average DR is 8. The original has DR 12.
Ffan
You must be confusing the CD with the vinyl, there is no way the vinyl has a DR of 8.
