Tommy is a soundtrack album by The Who with contributions from numerous artists. The soundtrack was used in the 1975 Tommy film that was based on the original album that was released by The Who in 1969. Pete Townshend oversaw the production of this double-LP recording that returned the music to its rock roots, and on which the unrecorded orchestral arrangements he had envisaged for the original Tommy LP were realised by the extensive use of synthesiser.
Tommy is The Who’s fourth studio album. It is a rock opera telling the story of a Psychosomatic deaf, dumb and blind boy and his experiences in life. The album served as a melting pot for guitarist Pete Townhend’s ideas about sex, family, spirituality and hero worship. Featuring Oliver Reed. Producers Kit Lambert & Pete Townshend. Writers John Entwistle, Keith Moon, Mose Allison & 2 more.
In 1969 Tommy reached in the UK charts

Nonetheless, the double album has many excellent songs, including "I'm Free," "Pinball Wizard," "Sensation," "Christmas," "We're Not Gonna Take It," and the dramatic ten-minute instrumental "Underture. Though the album was slightly flawed, Townshend's ability to construct a lengthy conceptual narrative brought new possibilities to rock music.
